Paralegal Internship with Attorney Kevin Howe
        October 2023 – November 2023
My daily duties included assisting Mr. Howe with completing Waivers for Arraignment, Affidavit of Substantial Hardship applications, and Petitions for Appointment of Attorney requests required for the Justice Court, Circuit Court, and Juvenile Court. I provided administrative support and accompanied him into the jail to interview clients. Over the past month I have become familiar with the proceedings in all three of these court settings. I have also gotten to know the staff and prosecuting attorney during this time and have developed good professional relationships.

Pierce County Sheriff – Correctional Sergeant
        January 2006–July 2023
My daily duties included the supervision and oversight of twelve to fifteen Corrections Deputies and approximately seven hundred medium and maximum-security inmates. I performed monthly performance evaluations on probationary deputies, as well as annual evaluations on regular staff. I was tasked with being a liaison between mental health staff, clinic staff, and the corrections staff. It was my responsibility to see that all inmate complaints of staff misconduct were brought to the attention of the command staff and properly investigated. I was responsible for reviewing investigations of misconduct investigated by internal affairs or other Correctional Sergeants. I was responsible for the safety and wellbeing of any visitors entering the facility, including attorneys and professional visitors. I worked with Microsoft Office programs daily, creating post orders, spreadsheets for tracking policy acknowledgements, and other data I was directed to monitor. I also provided training for staff several times a year on mandatory de-escalation tactics and restraint chair protocol. I received specialized training in interpersonal communications, de-escalation, Prison Rape Elimination Act, Religious Lan Use and Institutionalized Persons Act, and First Line Supervisor Training.

Pierce County Corrections Guild – Guild Administrator
        January 2014–July 2023
As the business administrator of the PCCG, I was responsible for a membership of nearly three-hundred corrections deputies. I engaged in collective bargaining to improve the wages and working conditions of those deputies. I performed advocacy for them when they experienced disciplinary matters. I helped maintain the safety of the building by communicating issues with the management and OSHA. I used the QuickBooks accounting system for Guild income and expenses. I had oversight of the Guild Treasurer and ensured that the record keeping was proper and conformed to state and federal guidelines. The Guild provided long term disability insurance benefits for its’ members. I assisted those in need in applying for benefits by acting as a liaison between the insurance company and the employee. I maintained a good working relationship with management and attended regular Labor-Management meetings to discuss current issues. I became deeply knowledgeable in labor contracts and arbitration over my nine years as Guild Administrator.
